Walsall-based youth arts charity RicNic is thrilled to announce the launch of the Big Walsall Waddle, a vibrant public art and story trail featuring 21 giant rubber ducks, each uniquely decorated by local community groups. The trail will waddle its way across Walsall this summer, and we’re proud to be partnering with the Canal & River Trust to bring this exciting project to life.

Designed to inspire families to explore the town and reconnect with local green and blue spaces, the Big Walsall Waddle combines creativity, storytelling, and nature. The trail will guide visitors through Walsall’s streets, parks and towpaths, offering fun stories, art, and interactive surprises along the way.

Jennifer Holyhead, Director of RicNic, said:

“We are so excited to partner with the Canal & River Trust on this project. Their involvement will help us to bring more exciting elements to the Waddle and will help us to link families with the wildlife on our local waterways.”

Lutfur Rahma, Community Roots Engagement Coordinator at Canal & River Trust, said: “What a fun project for local people to get involved in and what goes better with canals than a giant decorated duck! The Walsall Canal is a great place to spend some time in nature and spot some real ducks in the wild. Getting young people and their families to be more active whilst exploring their local canal is a great activity to do this summer and we’d urge everyone to get exploring and take part in the Big Waddle.”

As a charity focused on helping young people develop skills through creative projects, RicNic is proud to give youth groups across the area the opportunity to shape this summer event. With support from the Canal & River Trust, the project will also highlight the importance of looking after Walsall’s canal network and the diverse wildlife it supports.

The Big Walsall Waddle will run from 10th August to 13th September. Trail maps will be available online and from local partner venues, and the event is free to attend.

Follow the trail, meet the ducks, and discover Walsall in a whole new way!
