The Enablement Awareness Event took place at Goscote Centre, where attendees met members of the Enablement team, learnt about the service and explored how it is supporting residents across the borough.
Enablement is a short-term, strengths-based service that helps people develop the skills, confidence and independence they need to live well in their own homes and communities. Working alongside residents, the service focuses on building on existing strengths while supporting the development of practical skills such as daily living, managing finances, travel training and maintaining community connections.
The Enablement service forms part of the council’s Pathway to Independence Initiative, supporting adults who need social care services to achieve their personal goals and live as independently as possible.
During the drop-in event, visitors gained an overview of the Enablement offer and referral pathways, heard about the positive outcomes being achieved for residents and spoke directly with members of the team about how the service can support individuals and organisations.
“ The Enablement Awareness Event highlighted the positive impact this service is having on residents across Walsall. By helping people gain confidence and maintain their independence, Enablement is enabling more people to live fulfilling lives within their own communities. It was encouraging to see so many colleagues and partners come together to learn more about the service and how, by working together, we can ensure even more residents benefit from this valuable support. “
Councillor Peter Harrison, Portfolio Holder for Adult Social Care
Walsall Council
“ Supporting people to become or remain independent is fundamental to improving health and wellbeing. The event showcased how Enablement empowers residents to build the skills they need to manage everyday life while helping to prevent the need for more intensive care and support. It makes me really proud to strengthen partnerships and encourage greater awareness of the service across health, social care and the voluntary and community sector. “
Kerrie Allward, Executive Director of Adult Social Care
Walsall Council
The event encouraged colleagues and partners from across health, social care and the voluntary and community sector to strengthen their understanding of the Enablement Service, discuss referral pathways and explore how organisations can work together to support residents to remain independent for longer.
