A memorial service for those who have experienced pregnancy and baby loss is being held to mark a national campaign.

Baby Loss Awareness Week (BLAW) runs from 9 to 15 October 2025 and gives anyone affected by such a loss an opportunity to reflect and remember all the babies who have died too soon.

The service is being held on Sunday 12 October at 3pm at Pelsall Community and Arts Centre (WS3 4BQ), organised by Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust’s Chaplaincy and Spiritual Care Team alongside Laura Atkinson, Specialist Bereavement Midwife.

Laura said: “Whether it’s a new loss, or a loss from years ago – the pain and upset of losing a baby can often still be felt as deeply many years later.

“Our memorial service is a chance for all parents and families to commemorate the lives of babies who died during pregnancy, at, or soon after, birth, and in infancy.”

During the service parents will have an opportunity to light a candle and hang a token on a memorial tree. Families can also expect a small gift to help them through their grief, thanks to funding from the Trust’s Well Wishers charity.

Families of faith and no faith are welcome to attend. Refreshments will be available after the service.

Reverend Linford Davis, Head of Spiritual, Pastoral and Religious Care, added: “We hope to bring some comfort to those who attend the service, and can offer support to those who need us.”

A number of local baby loss support charities will be supporting the event, including the national SANDS charity.

The week culminates in a global Wave of Light on Wednesday 15 October where families across the world can light a candle at 7pm and leave it burning for at least one hour as tribute.
