The study is called ADAPT-Heat and has been set up to hear about views about hot weather in England during pregnancy and the first month of a baby’s life.
It is sponsored by Newcastle University and in Walsall, Dr Yomna Salem, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, is the Principal Investigator for the study.
The aim of this research is to better understand the impacts of high outdoor temperature on pregnancy and newborn health in England.
Dr Salem said: “We’ve already had a few spells of really hot weather so far this summer and we do know that in a heatwave there is more risk of dehydration, fainting, heat exhaustion and heatstroke.
“But more research into the effects of really hot weather on pregnant women and their babies in those first few weeks of life will help us gain a better understanding of the impacts. These findings will help us to develop guidance for future parents and carers.
“Women’s and children’s health are such important areas of research, and we’d encourage anyone eligible to support this study in Walsall. Participants are asked to complete a short survey which should take a maximum of 30 minutes to do. Thank you in advance to anyone who does so for us.”
