The event hosted at the college was part of their Access to Health Professions qualification. It gave them the opportunity to demonstrate to the college community the specialist knowledge they have gained which has helped them progress on to health and medical-related degrees this September.
The two events held saw student groups host information stands, demos and activities on themes including the dangers of smoking and vaping, eating disorders, sexual health, and how a good night’s sleep and healthy eating impact positively on mental health.
They encouraged visitors to share their health and lifestyle experiences and enhance their understanding of ways to improve their diet, fitness and wellbeing,
Angela Taylor, Quality Development Coach at the college said: “With the students now progressing to degrees in midwifery, forensic psychology, nutrition and diet therapy, occupational therapy, mental health nursing and adult nursing, it was inspiring to see how confidently and professionally they engaged with others on the importance of ‘living well to be well’.
Lecturer, Kate Branch added: “Students were assessed on the design of their stands, the quality of the literature and activities they provided, and how proactively they engaged with others.
“Face-to-face interactions like these are key to their success as future health and medical practitioners, giving them a real insight into how meaningful their future careers will be.”
