Do you like gardening? Have you got a little free time each week? Would you like to volunteer at Acorns Children's Hospice? - Answered yes, then please read on!

Acorns in the Black County is looking to recruit a group of volunteers willing maintain its glorious gardens for the enjoyment of children and families.

Carl Cadman, Volunteers Manager at Acorns for the Black Country, said: “This is an exciting opportunity for keen gardeners to take ownership of space that brings joy to children and young people in our care.

“It’s not a major undertaking, we’re looking for volunteers that will come in and keep our gardens looking lovely and enable the families staying with us to use the gardens to their fullest.”

The outdoor space at the hospice in Walstead Road, Walsall, includes a large rear garden, play area, sensory trail and a special memorial garden, which offers a quiet place for families to remember loved ones.

Carl added: “The gardens provide a safe space for children and families to play outdoors and take part in activities that create special moments of fun and laughter.

“So, if you want to volunteer, either on your own or together as a group, please get in touch. Giving a day or even an afternoon will make a huge difference.”

Acorns provides care to over 870 children across the region and more than 1,140 families, including those who are bereaved. The charity relies on fundraising and donations for the majority of the £10 million it needs each year to run its services, both at its three hospices and in the community.

If you are interested in becoming a garden volunteer for Acorns in the Black Country email volunteer.blackcountry@acorns.org.uk or call 01922 422500

Your help would be much appreciated by all the children and families who receive support from Acorns.
