Mark’s journey is anything but ordinary. Once a corporate accountant, he traded in spreadsheets and balance sheets for jars of liquorice and trays of fudge. His vision was simple yet heartfelt: to create a place that sold “memories… in the form of sweets.”
What began as a leap of faith during a tough economic climate has since flourished into one of Walsall’s best-loved independent businesses. Mark’s dedication, community spirit, and personal touch have earned him the affectionate title of The Sweet Shop Man.
Step inside The Sweet Shop and you’re met with shelves bursting with nostalgia. With over 400 varieties of sweets on offer, there’s something for everyone – from classic boiled sweets and chewy toffees to 36 flavours of Dobson lollies.
But this isn’t just a trip down memory lane. The shop also caters for all dietary needs, with a wide choice of sugar-free, gluten-free, vegetarian and Halal sweets. Whether it’s a quick bag of pick ’n’ mix or a thoughtful gift, customers are spoilt for choice.
Over the past 15 years, The Sweet Shop has grown to offer much more than jars and paper bags of treats. Customers can order personalised hampers, beautifully presented corporate gifts, or wedding favours with a difference. There are even sweet stands for hire – perfect for parties and events.
For those who love a classic pick ’n’ mix, you can even build your own selection in store, with the cost based on weight.

Since opening in 2010, Mark has been proud to be part of the local business scene and has been a member of The Best of Walsall since 2011.
