Local   wordsmiths are returning to celebrate their craft for the second Walsall Festival of Words on Saturday 10th June in Walsall Arboretum.

There will be a second year of free activities on the Bandstand and in the Seedhouse for a lively day of words and music for all the family.

Joining them on stage at the Bandstand will be former Walsall Poet Laureate Ian Henery.

"Last year the Festival took place over two days" explained Ian Henery "and events included workshops in the New Art Gallery, The Table and Shimla Peppers.  There was also a train of poets walking through the town, interviews with notable local writers and it all had a climatic finish on the Arboretum Bandstand with local band The Martian Social Club".

The second Festival builds on this success but with less walking between venues.  Organised by Andrew Clayton and Walsall Writers Circle, there will be 6 hours of spoken word and sung performances on the Bandstand.

The afternoon will culminate with the appearance of local punk ukulele band   Not Quite Dead Yet.  Performances will take place from 11am - 5pm.

Walsall Writers Circle will be hosting activities in the Seedhouse, accessed from the Visitor Centre Cafe, for all the family called "Catch the Words Bug". Activities run from 12 noon - 5pm.

"Last year we staged read through performances from my latest play for China West Midlands in Shimla Peppers" said Ian Henery "with A Comedy Theatre Group and the Chinese Community Centre.  This year I`m looking forward to getting up on stage at the Bandstand and helping to celebrate local writing talent."
