A total of 49 children from Breakout Performing Arts in Walsall entertained patients across the Children’s Ward, Modular Block, Discharge Lounge and A&E, spreading Christmas cheer throughout the hospital.
Patient Honey-Grace was among those who enjoyed the visit. The two-year-old, who has cerebral palsy and epilepsy, had been recovering from a recent chest infection that required a hospital stay.
Her mum, Tara Duffy, a Community Staff Nurse at the Trust, said: “It has been brilliant, the children coming in today. It has brought cheer to the ward, especially with the children feeling a bit down. The children’s singing was absolutely fabulous.”
Hanna Hart and her nine-month-old daughter, Ezmai, also loved listening to the young performers.
Hanna said: “It made me feel quite emotional. It was such a lovely thing for the children to come in and entertain others. We loved it.”
Rachel Hardway, owner of Breakout Performing Arts, said: “It has been a real pleasure to be at Walsall Manor to spread joy to the wards. We have been singing carols along with some dance and acting pieces in the communal areas for everyone in the hospital to pop along and see.
“We were last in the hospital performing in 2019, so we thought it was certainly time to come back again. It has been so lovely seeing all the smiling faces, and the children have really enjoyed their visit as well.”
Georgie Westley, Fundraising Manager at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust’s Well Wishers charity, added: “It was a real joy to go round with the children. They are all so talented and performed some lovely Christmas songs to get all the wards in the festive spirit – it brought a smile, and sometimes a tear, to patients young and old.
“Thank you so much to Breakout Performing Arts for supporting us.”
