Drawn Game At Sheffield United

Walsall headed to lowly Sheffield United in midweek looking for a rare win at Bramall Lane but had to be content with a 1-1 draw. The kick off was delayed for eight minutes due to a small fire in their catering department! This was Saddlers second draw in four days on the road and although its always nice to pick up a point away from hom there is a feeling that both games could and should have been victories. The first half saw very few chances for both sides and the biggest talking points of the opening 45 minutes were two penalty decisions for the home team-one which wasn't given and one which was. The later was when James Chambers was harshly judged to have made a handball in the box but it was more a case of ball to hand. Chris Porter put away the penalty kick on the stroke of half time.

Within two minutes of the restart Saddlers were on level terms when James Baxendale whipped over an excellent cross which leading scorer Craig Westcarr met perfectly to head the ball firmly into the back of the net. Walsall started to play a bit enjoying plenty of the ball but not creating many clear cut chances. As the game wore on Walsall used up all their substitutes but couln't force the winner. So honours even and Walsall are just outside the play offs and if they could score goals they would be in a very handy position.
