So what's a Doula and why do you need one? Especially during the curent pandemic.

A Doula is a professionally trained birth companion. Someone who has many skills, a vast knowledge around pregnancy, birth and early parenthood, and is there for you and your partner every step of the way! Both physically and mentally supporting you.
Hiring a doula means you will be fully prepared and supported, feeling confident to birth how you want to. And;

  • gives you a fully equipped tool box of breathing techniques, hypnobirthing, coping strategies, birth positions and more!
  • offers hands on massage and practical support (getting the birthpool ready, carrying bags etc)
  • gives your partner confidence to support you and protect your space, allowing you to remain calm throughout.
  • gives you both confidence to know when is the right time to go to hospital (or call the midwife for home birth) minimising the time spent alone due to current covid policies.
  • means you will have a fully trained birth professional with you throughout, making pregnancy, birth and the early postnatal period that little bit easier.

And if that doesn't convince you maybe these stats will! Studies show hiring a doula for your birth can;

  • Shorten labour time
  • Reduce cesarean rates by 50%
  • 30% reduction in use of pain relief medication
  • 60% fewer requests for epidural
  • 40% less chance of medical intervention (i.e forceps or episiotomy etc)
  • Breastfeeding rates past 6 weeks are increased.

*Please note, during these uncertain times I am offering my support online via my Digital Doula services, to respect social distancing measures.
