The Local Plan is essential for ensuring that Walsall meets its future needs for new homes, jobs, schools, and infrastructure, while also protecting the places and green spaces that matter most to our communities.

The draft Local Plan will focus on using brownfield land first. We want to make sure we’re protecting the areas that are important to us, whilst shaping plans for developments that work for our communities. Due to national policy changes, our Green Belt is at risk, so we want as many local people as possible to have their say.

Having an up-to-date Local Plan gives the council and residents a say over where development happens, how the environment and heritage is protected, and how the right kind of growth for Walsall can be delivered. Without it, the borough risks losing control over planning decisions and missing out on opportunities for regeneration and investment. The plan is also crucial for delivering the ambitions of the “We Are Walsall 2040” strategy, making Walsall a healthier, greener, and more prosperous place for everyone.
Consultation will open on Friday 7 November 2025 and closes on Friday 19 December 2025.
Residents can view and comment on the draft local plan on the council’s Commonplace site
