Titled ‘How Do You Look After Yourself’, the booklet was developed following an art competition held over Christmas 2024. Children and young people from across Walsall in Key Stages 1 to 5 were invited to share their tips and reflections based on the 8 Steps to Wellbeing, with over 40 entries received.
Each page showcases the creativity of Walsall’s young people, featuring colourful drawings and thoughtful words that highlight the importance of self-care, kindness and resilience. Topics include staying active, maintaining good sleep habits, building positive relationships and finding hope for the future.
The booklet has been distributed to schools, community shops, family hubs and libraries across the borough. Councillors and staff have also received a copy of the booklet.
“ Wellbeing is essential for children’s development and happiness. The booklet not only celebrates the voices of our young people but also serves as a resource for families and professionals to have conversations about mental wellbeing. We would like to thank the children, their parents and their schools for taking part, sharing their creativity and wisdom and to those who helped bring this project to life. “

The booklet promotes the Eight Steps to Wellbeing: healthy body, healthy mind; relationships with others; taking notice; volunteering; keep learning; sleep for wellbeing; hydration and nutrition; and hope for the future.
Copies of the booklet can be picked up in Family Hubs and libraries across the borough.
