Christmas in Walsall mulled wine recipe
3rd December 2009
... Comments

Throughout December I like to serve Mulled wine as a Christmas treat, not only does it has the desired effect of getting you merry but it just smells and tastes of Christmas!

I would like to share the recipe for those who want to try it at home, I suggest drinking it after dinner on the sofa, with the fire on. Dressing gown and slippers is the appropriate dress!!

It is dead simple!!

You will need...

  • One bottle (750 mL) of red wine (suggestions: Cabernet Sauvignon or  Merlot is best but otherwise any)
  • One peeled and sliced orange (keep peel to add zest to taste into cooking pot)
  • 1/4 cup of brandy (or more if you like)
  • 8-10 cloves
  • 2/3 cup honey or sugar
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 tsp fresh or 2 tsp ground ginger (allspice can be substituted)

How to do it!

Combine all ingredients in either a large pot or a slow cooker. Gently warm the ingredients on low to medium heat (do not boil!!), for 20-25 minutes. Stir occasionally to make sure that the honey or sugar has completely dissolved.

Serve in a heat ressistant coffee liquer glass and garnish with a stick of cinnammon

Try it, it doesn't take long and is delicious with the warmth of the cinnamon, the kick of the brandy and the smoothness of the wine.

If you try it leave a comment and let me know what you think!!
