A Willenhall-based charity has handed over £5,000 to help improve pelvic health care, diagnosis and treatment for patients at Walsall Manor Hospital.

Willenhall Area Relief Rehabilitation and Nursing Trust (WARRANT) donated the money to Walsall Healthcare’s Well Wishers charity which raises funds for items above and beyond what the NHS is able to provide.

The donation has been used to buy a specialist probe which enables sonographers to get images of pelvic organs, aiding assessment and treatment.

Nicky Smith, Advanced Specialist Physiotherapist Women’s Health at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust, said: “There has been rapid expansion in the development of ultrasound which enables physiotherapists to combine ultrasound imaging within their assessment, treatment, and patient education.

“In the area of pelvic health the new probe has really helped enhance our ability to diagnose and treat a multitude of conditions, providing treatments not currently available.

“This is benefitting patients as we no longer need to refer to other specialist or hospitals, reducing number of appointments, costs and, most importantly, improving patients’ experience.”

This year the charity is donating a further £5,000 to Well Wishers.

Georgie Westley, Fundraising Manager, said: “We are extremely grateful to WARRANT for its support.

“This generosity allows us to make a real difference to both staff and patients at Walsall Manor Hospital.”

Nicky added: “We can’t thank WARRANT enough, their support has meant that we can improve the care we give our patients and provide a much better experience for them.”
