At The Best of Walsall, we're passionate about celebrating the people, businesses and organisations that make our borough such a fantastic place to live, work and do business. That message was reinforced recently when we had the pleasure of welcoming Karen Williams OBE, Deputy Lieutenant for the West Midlands, who joined us at our breakfast networking event, to speak about the importance of recognising those who go above and beyond for their communities.

Karen attended in her role as one of the West Midlands' 77 Deputy Lieutenants, supporting the work of the Lord-Lieutenant, Derrick Anderson CBE, who represents His Majesty The King across a region of more than 3.1 million people.

Celebrating the Very Best of Walsall

As Deputy Lieutenant, Karen has the privilege of recognising the remarkable achievements of individuals, businesses, charities and community groups throughout the West Midlands.

Speaking at The Best of Walsall, Karen said:

"The West Midlands is rich with talent, generosity, innovation and community spirit. There are countless individuals and organisations making an incredible difference every day, yet many of their contributions go unnoticed simply because nobody takes the step to nominate them."

She explained that one of the most rewarding aspects of her role is helping to celebrate those who dedicate their time, passion and expertise to improving the lives of others.

Recognition Really Does Matter

Across Walsall, there are volunteers giving up their spare time to support local causes, community groups changing lives, and businesses demonstrating outstanding leadership, innovation and social responsibility.

Karen believes these achievements deserve to be celebrated and highlighted through national recognition schemes, including:

  • The King's Honours
  • The King's Award for Voluntary Service
  • The King's Awards for Enterprise

These prestigious awards recognise exceptional service, achievement and commitment, shining a spotlight on those who make a lasting impact within their communities.

Could Someone You Know Be Deserving?

Karen encouraged everyone to think about the people and organisations within their own networks.

Is there:

  • A volunteer who always goes the extra mile?
  • A community leader making a real difference?
  • A charity or organisation transforming lives?
  • A local business showing exceptional innovation or community spirit?

If someone immediately springs to mind, perhaps now is the time to consider nominating them.

Celebrating the Best of Walsall

At The Best of Walsall, we see first-hand the incredible work being carried out by local businesses and organisations every day. Our community is full of inspiring people who quietly make a positive difference, often without seeking recognition.

As Karen Williams OBE reminded us:

"By nominating deserving individuals and organisations, we can ensure their contributions are recognised and celebrated."

Walsall has so much to be proud of. From thriving local businesses and dedicated volunteers to community champions and inspirational leaders, our borough is bursting with talent and generosity.

Let's continue to celebrate the very best of Walsall and ensure that the people making a difference receive the recognition they truly deserve.
