Recent reports have revealed that six out of the ten national hotspots for “crash for cash” schemes are here in Birmingham.
According to the latest reports, the post code covering B10 is the worst area in Birmingham, and the second worst place nationally for “crash for cash” schemes to take place; B11 was named fourth nationally, whilst B8 and B9 are named nationally as being joint fifth.
The data has also revealed that B25 which covers Yardley is the eight worst place nationally for such scams, whilst B7 is joint ninth.
The other areas in the UK making up the Top Ten were in Bradford and Bolton.
Under the schemes, those involved flash unsuspecting drivers at junctions to suggest that they are letting them out, the driver who flashes, then drives into the unsuspecting vehicle – and it is estimated that the scams are costing policymakers nearly £400 million per year.
