With the winter weather fast approaching and frosty mornings not far away A.S. Mondeos of Wednesbury are asking motorists to help to freeze out opportunist car crime

The 'frosty morning warning' is being issued to the region's vehicle owners to ensure they don't leave cars running, unattended and unlocked when the cold weather inevitably kicks in.

A.S. Mondeos of Wednesbury are also keen to remind owners that they are unlikely to be able to claim insurance if their car is stolen as a result of it being left insecure by the owner.

Between November 2010 and February 2011,there were 11 recorded thefts across the area which was as a direct result of leaving vehicles running and unattended whilst they defrosted.

Recent advances in vehicle security means criminals have become more opportunist. All the security features on your car won't help if you leave your car running to warm up with the key in the ignition.

The first frosty morning of the year will catch many people out who, to avoid being late for work, will leave cars unattended and pop back into the house. People think it is fine to leave their cars unattended for just a moment, but a moment is all it takes for the car to be stolen.

Please help yourself by starting the winter as you mean to go on and don't get in a bad habit of leaving your car insecure at any time.

A.S. Mondeos of Wednesbury are urging motorists not to take any risks with their safety or the safety of others by failing to clear windscreens properly before driving.
