The relaxed outdoor session will combine a gentle walk through Walsall Arboretum with poetry and creative writing activities inspired by nature and the changing seasons.   Participants will be encouraged to slow down, observe their surroundings and use the sights, sounds, colours and atmosphere of the park as inspiration for their writing.

Creative prompts will be provided throughout the session, with people welcome to take part at their own pace.   No previous poetry or creative writing experience is required.   The event is organised by AccessAbility Arts CIC, a Midlands-based community arts organisation working to make creativity accessible and welcoming to everyone. Through workshops, performances, open mics, community projects and partnerships, the organisation aims to break down barriers to participation and create spaces where people from different backgrounds and abilities can express themselves creatively.

“Poetry in the Park is about giving ourselves permission to slow down and really notice what’s around us. You don’t have to consider yourself a poet or even know what you’re going to write when you arrive.  

“We want people to enjoy being outdoors, have a conversation, notice something they might normally walk straight past and see where their creativity takes them.   “Accessibility is at the heart of what we do at AccessAbility Arts, so we’re really looking forward to welcoming people of all abilities to Walsall Arboretum.”  

Poetry in the Park follows an earlier summer session at Walsall Arboretum and continues AccessAbility Arts’ growing programme of inclusive creative opportunities across the Midlands.
