Over the same period, the council issued a further 144 Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) as part of ongoing efforts to keep the borough clean. Anyone issued with an FPN must pay within 14 days. Failure to do so, following a reminder, may result in the case being progressed through court.
The latest results follow the deployment of 21 additional CCTV cameras (March 2026), bringing the total number of enforcement cameras across the borough to 71.
CCTV continues to capture a wide range of offences. In one recent incident, a lorry driver appeared to decide he didn’t quite fancy his freshly acquired orange chips, throwing them from his cab window instead of using a bin.
Council officers continue to hear a range of excuses from people issued with FPNs. Recent examples include claims that ‘there wasn't any sign saying I couldn't litter’ and ‘If I had known I would get a fine, I wouldn’t have littered’.
“ Littering is completely unacceptable and there is simply no excuse for it. Whether it's a cigarette end, a drinks can or even someone's unwanted orange chips, if you choose to throw your rubbish onto our streets you should expect to face the consequences.
Councillor Ian Benton, Portfolio Holder for Street Scene and Enforcement
"All income from Fixed Penalty Notices is reinvested into enforcement activity, helping us keep Walsall cleaner, safer and more welcoming for everyone. “
Residents can dispose of waste legally at the borough's Household Waste Recycling Centres at Fryers Road, Bloxwich, and Middlemore Lane, Aldridge, which accept general waste, recycling and bulky items. A bulky waste collection service is also available for households unable to transport larger items.
Families requiring additional bin capacity due to growing households or medical needs can apply for a larger bin through the council's website.
Residents can report fly-tipping online(opens in new tab) via the Council’s website or by calling 01922 653355.
