Initially it was the worst experience ever. Paid for a day pass for both me and my daughter to try the gym out to see if we want to become members as we go to PureGym and NRG and looking for something g different. The signs say enter your reg inside the gym to verify your parking, so whilst in the gym just before we left we entered my car reg into their machine. A week later I’ve got a £100 fine through the post. The gym didn’t want to help on the phone. So I went down and spoke to a guy who came out to reception. (I parked 10mins walk away from the gym because I didnt want to get another ticket). The Simply Gym staff member took a photo of the parking fine and my details and said he would check it out and sort it. I did not hear anything from them but when I went to appeal the fine it said it had been cancelled. So at least that was a relief that this part had been dealt with (even though I had not been notified - that I know of).
As for the gym itself. The lighting is not very bright, so its not that good for recording training videos, but the equipment and layout of the gym are very good. The dumbbells go to 60kg (better than Puregym). There are a few machines that are not at other gyms which I liked. There is a dedicated deadlift area - again a nice setup. Overall (other than lighting) the gym is a good gym.
My only concern that I am finding difficult to shake is the parking - I'm not sure if I will ever get to trust the parking situation. It is the gym's dedicated car park. There are no other businesses close to it that might have visitors wrongly using Simply's car park - so it just blows my mind why they have the parking system they have, that in my experience wrongly sends out £100 fines to visitors that are only going to the gym (I mean you wouldn't even park on that car park unless you are going to the gym because there is nothing local to it for you to visit anyway).
It is a shame. But it must work for many people because when I revisited in the day time to discuss my parking fine the car park was near full. So I could assume my experience was a glitch, but I'm not ready to consider that is the case just yet.
