Today is the eighth annual World Autism Awareness Day where autism organizations around the world celebrate the day with unique fundraising and awareness-raising events.
The day was created by the National Autistic Society to encourage people in England, Wales and Northern Ireland to show their support for anyone on the autistic spectrum. World Autism Awareness Day was declared in perpetuity by the United Nations back in 2007 and its main principle is to raise awareness of autism on all levels in society.
There are new traditions to take part in on this day every other year as it is a new cause and still growing in popularity. To show your support for this cause the WADD urge people to wear blue to resemble their logo and slogan “Autism Speaks, Light it up Blue” (#LIUB). You can also support the cause by wearing a onesie or pyjamas because in 2014 WAAD coincided with Onesie Wednesday.
