Nikola Masters of Osbourne Lodge Nursery explains the importance of First Aid training, and how she plans to offer free training to family members of children who attend the #Pontypool based nursery.

The NHS report that around 300 infants die suddenly and unexpectedly every year from SIDS – Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, also commonly known as cot death.  So whether you're a parent, grandparent, auntie or uncle, learning first aid will give you the skills and confidence to save a life when it really counts.

Our children face injury hazards every day, thankfully most of the time when they hurt themselves a reassuring cuddle soon eases the pain however one of the most common hazards they face each day can have more serious consequences. #Choking is one of the leading causes of deaths in infants, but research shows that three out of four parents in the UK would not be able to save their baby from choking.

Nikola Masters said “Choking is a risk for babies and young children, with small everyday items like food, sweets and grapes being some of the common hazards. Yet around 75% per cent of parents have never learnt first aid, and don’t have the knowledge or confidence to help their baby or child in an emergency – let’s change that

Osbourne Lodge Nurseryare holding #First-Aid training at their nursery on Osborne Road, Pontypool on Saturday 20th January 2018. The 3 hour session will be aimed at teaching emergency life-saving skills when treating babies and young children. One free place* will be offered for families of children who attend the nursery, however the training is open to everyone at a special introductory rate of just £15, which will include light refreshments.

we want to improve the safety for our children in #Torfaen, and give parents and carers an opportunity to gain some valuable experience that just might make a huge difference to their lives one day. If the first session is popular, we will release more dates to give as many people as possible the chance to attend and learn. We also have this short and fun family friendly video produced by #StJohnAmbulance, which gives some great guidance on what to do in an emergency”.

To secure your space, just visit our Eventbrite Booking Page, book early to avoid disappointment.

* Free place will be provided via a £15 refund off your Osbourne Lodge Nursery invoice following your attendance at the training session
