Black Friday

Ok every ones on about it, but what does Black Friday mean?

What’s it all about? And are we here in the UK really interested?

Well of course we are if it means bargains, and sales right before one of the most expansive time of the year, Christmas.

So asking around, different people have different ideas about the true meaning of black Friday.

Is it the day everyone starts having their office parties really for the Christmas holidays, so no work gets done?

Is it the day the shops use as a Christmas sales push to make sure their bank balance is in the black for the holidays? Black Friday always falls the day after the American holiday of Thanksgiving and so retailers in the US have traditionally experienced a surge in shoppers starting their Christmas shopping. It’s also been linked to cyber Monday which is widely accepted as the Monday that follows black Friday?

Is it because (if on monthly pay) it’s the last payday before Christmas?

Or does it back further?  May be there’s a link to the Welsh miners and Black Friday?

May be to Friday 15th April 1921? That day was a very black Friday for Welsh miners.

1910 to 1912 was a period of industrial unrest and so in 1913 three workforces came together.

The miners, railwaymen and the transport workers unions formed “The Triple Alliance” they made a promise to support each other if there ever was a strike.

But in fact on 15th April 1921 then and how know as BLACK FRIDAY. The railway and transport unions failed to support the miner’s when the mine owners reduced their wages and increased their hours of work.

Or maybe......................

It’s just when everyone is in a black mood because they are fed up of hearing about Christmas in November.

So what’s your take on this?
