Our daughter loves to dance and we spent a long time trying to find the right school - as a child I never danced so this was a new world to me. Our experiences at other schools were less than ideal so we were cautious about introducing Emily to another class. Carmichaels has been an absolute joy. Emily has now been happily embedded there for four years and counting.
All of the teachers are supremely qualified and work tirelessly to ensure that each child is engaged and encouraged to progress. Holding the attention of the younger ones requires particular skill and I really liked being able to watch the classes as Emily settled in. As a parent we are frequently invited in for impromptu performances at the end of the classes - a super way to build confidence and share their experiences.
The School put an a biannual show at the local theatre. Clever choreography is used to allow each child to shine. I was particularly impressed with the behind the scenes facilities, younger children using the crèche with the senior girls opting to have their meals with the younger children throughout the weekend. The teachers thought of everything to ensure the children were safe and happy. More recently some of the children have entered festivals which has given them a new dimension to their dance experience, not just working on their competition routines, but also learning how to present themselves to the judges and above all else, building their confidence.
Emily's posture and coordination has noticeably improved and as I am a Strength and Conditiong Coach, I look at the classes to see how they facilitate this. I am delighted with the way they work with Emily, they have the balance of discipline and humour right, something as I parent I need to work on at times! Emily has been taught to listen to the phrasing of the music so developing much more than just dance.
What I particularly like is the friendships that Emily is forming, running to the older girls in the changing areas for cuddles and chats, learning to dance as a team and supporting each other through exams, competitions and life.
The school hold Christmas Parties, mini musicals throughout the year, guest dancers hold workshops for variety and development, there are theatre trips and much more. You can take part in as much or as little as you like so there are options for everyone.
I really can't recommend Carmichael's enough, it is so much more than a dance school. It is a community that allows the safe and happy progressions from tiny tots to young adults - in this new and fast paced electronic world, the dance school fosters friendship, fitness, fun, commitment and education.
We really appreciate the environment they create and I can't recommend them enough.
Wel i attended carmicheals when i was younger for 10 years and the opportunities it gave me was amazing and the teachers were amazing and so friendly!
I then had my 1st daughter and she loves ballet tap and modern and now also attends carmicheals and she is sooo happy there and im so pleased that the teachers are all stil amazing and stil super friendly and im so excited my little girl is now having the best experience she can.
I can be sure to say if my 2nd daughter loves dance as much as my 1st she wil also be attending there :)
My budding ballerina of 3 years old began attending weekly sessions at Charmichael school of Dance and Theatre Arts 7 years ago. She was initially inspired by the tutu and everything pink but soon became smitten by the dance bug. She loved the innovative classes that not only incorporated dance but many other key personal and social development skills. She initially struggled with having confidence when performing in front of an audience but through the encouragement and support of the incredible dance teachers she took part in her first stage performances 2 years ago and since then her confidence has gone through the roof. This has had a noticeable effect on her in other aspects such as school. She has now increased the number of classes she takes and just loves everything about dance, the school, the teachers and her peers there. She has gone on to attend workshops organised by the school and delivered by West End dancers/choreographers along with perform in The Nutcracker with the Vienna Festival Ballet company. The school goes above and beyond for its students and this shows in the quality of dancers it produces. Each of the teacher's are amazingly talented and fabulous role models for the students. The energy and dedication put into this school by the principle Nicola Charmichael is truly outstanding. I would highly recommend the school to anyone.
My daughter has been dancing at Carmichael School of Theatre arts for 8 years and it's like her second home. .She loves being part of this dance family. The standardof dance taught is amazing by all teachers at the school . The friendships she has made are lifelong I'm sure . Miss Nicola and her her team are passionate, professional and also very caring towards all the students and parents .
The most amazing dance school offering such a wide range of classes for all ages and abilities. Staff are so lovely and I have so much fun as well as learning and improving my skills every session. Huge amounts of support are given with dance exams and grades, Nicola will always do everything she possibly can to help you and that's very special.
Carmichaels has been my second home for 14 years and I have thoroughly enjoyed every second of it. The teaching is first class and the environment created by staff and students makes it so wonderful to be a part of. I have made friends for life through Carmichaels and been supported by my teachers every step of the way and know that I will always be welcome here. This is the place and people that made me find my love of dancing that I will never forget so I would highly recommend going to Carmichaels if you want to have fun and train in the performing arts!
With a background knowledge of 'dance' I wanted the BEST school for my daughter and I certainly found that with Carmichael's. I found it.Qualified teachers, enthusiastic, committed and inspiring. My daughter eats sleeps and dreams dance since she joined 11 years ago has now achieved and fulfilled a new venture at 16 that has all been down to her hard work but not achievable without exemplary teaching. The staff are up to date with the syllabus of RAD and ISTD and the shows each two years are so professional and makes you one proud parent. Carmichael's is the best move you could ever make if dancing Is what you want for your child. You WONT be disappointed .a truly family run dance filled school. R Ashworth, September 2015
My daughter's have been attending Carmichael's for 8 years now and love every minute of their time there. Miss Nicola and her team are not only dance teachers but take it one step further and care about the girls they teach. They have become people we consider as friends through their approach. Amazing place.
They put on a show every other year which is west end standard.

My daughter has just completed her training with Carmichael School of Dance & Theatre Arts and has been lucky enough to gain a place on the BA (Hons) Degree course at London Studion Centre in King's Cross, London.
This success is in no small measure due to the training and support she has received from Nicola and her staff since joining the school six years ago. The quality of teaching is excellent and of a very high professional level. They have helped my daughter achieve the highest marks for Ballet, Tap and Modern exams at vocational level. My daughter has also taken part in three school shows which have been a joy to watch.
At the heart of this school is a strong family support group and this generates a wonderful feeling of warmth and security to all who pass through the doors. The kindness shown to us by Nicola and her family has been exceptional and we are forever grateful to them all.
I would not hesitate to recommend the school to anyone considering sending their child to dance classes - and have, in fact, already done so to many friends and colleagues.

I started my training at the Carmichael School of Theatre Arts in April 2006 after struggling to find an approved centre that offered teacher training lessons in the evenings and weekends (to fit around working full time). My experience at Carmichael’s has been fantastic, all the tutors are so accommodating and welcoming, and I have been able to achieve my FDI and CDE Modern and Tap. I wouldn’t have been able to do this without the hard work and dedication of Miss Carmichael, Miss Wilson and the team. Their advice and support and willingness to go over and above by extending and offering extra lessons was invaluable, allowing me to successfully complete my qualifications.
Although the school is an hour drive from where I live and there are closer approved centres to me I hope to complete my Ballet FDI & CDE at Carmichael’s in the future. Thanks to the professional yet caring approach to teacher training at the school I will start teaching at an ISTD school local to me in September 2010 – I can’t wait! Thank you!
