With festival season officially under way, a care home in Tamworth is welcoming the community for a fun-filled morning of food and celebration.
On Wednesday 5th August from 10:30am-12pm, Care UK’s Arkall Manor will open its doors to families and neighbours for a food festival, inviting guests to tuck in and celebrate the nation’s shared love of great cuisine, community and connection.
Visitors to the Ashby Road home can look forward to cakes and bakes, specially prepared by the head chef as part of the community Friendship Café. There will also be the opportunity for residents and visitors to plant herbs that will later be used in the home’s kitchens, bringing them together through gardening, friendship, and food.
Resident June Clarke said, “All the cakes are made right here in the kitchen and are of the best quality. They’re really quite delicious!”
The event is part of the ‘A Taste of Home’ initiative, which will see Care UK homes across the country host foodie-themed celebrations and showcase what life in a care home is really like.
Each festival will showcase sustainable, community-focused initiatives while celebrating the diversity and creativity within the homes, from residents’ favourite recipes and traditional dishes to seasonal menus featuring locally sourced ingredients.
Samukaliso Marozo, Home Manager at Arkall Manor, said: “We’re delighted to be welcoming the local community to our very own food festival!
“We are part of a strong community here in Tamworth, and days like this are a wonderful way of bringing people together to celebrate our shared love of food, while giving residents the opportunity to share their favourite recipes and traditions with younger generations.
“The morning not only promises a lot of laughter, but it is also an excellent way for residents to meet and mingle with lots of new faces – and some familiar ones. We can’t wait to welcome everyone through the doors.”
