A new Community Fire Station is to be built in Belgrave, Tamworth after contracts were finally signed in London on October 15.

The signing of the contract now means that the money is their to enable construction to begin on the new Community Fire Station on land just off Marlborough Way before the end of the year.

The new station has been designed with both community facilities and state of the art operational facilities, allowing the Brigade to host more community courses.

Chief Fire Officer/Chief Executive Peter Dartford said:

“This is fantastic news for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service, those we work in partnership with and, most importantly those we serve. We are leading the way in the UK Fire and Rescue Service with these purpose built community embracing fire stations. Our current fire stations were built at a time when we were almost solely a reactive service just responding to emergencies, they were certainly not built for the pro-active service we are today or the Service we are going to be in the future – sitting at the heart of the community.”

Chairman of the Fire and Rescue Authority, Cllr Len Bloomer commented:

“It’s taken over three years of hard work to get to this stage, however now that the contracts are signed things will start progressing quickly – within the next year we’ll have opened the first of our new stations. It’s a very exciting time for both the Service and the communities who will benefit from these new facilities.”

Not only will a new fire station be built in Belgrave, but the existing station in the town centre will also be rebuilt.
