A Stroud care home is issuing a special call-out to local Dachshund owners as a resident prepares to mark her 102nd birthday.

Laurice Clark, who lives at Care UK’s Scarlet House, on Westward Road, will be celebrating her milestone birthday on Thursday 19thJune – and there’s only one thing she’s asked for to make the day extra special: dachshunds, and lots of them.

To help make Laurice’s wish come true, the team at Scarlet House is inviting dachshund owners from across Stroud, the wider Gloucestershire area and beyond to bring along their beloved pets to a big birthday garden party from 3pm on Thursday 19th June. The goal? To gather 102 sausage dogs – one for each year of Laurice’s life.

Laurice has a special place in her heart for the much-loved breed, having bred and raised dachshunds with her husband in her younger years. Their mostbeloved pets were four standard-size, smooth-haired, black and tan Dachshunds, named Timmy, Tiny, Lucy and Shane.

With encouragement from her husband, Laurice entered two of her dogs into competitions across the country, including Crufts, where they proudly placed second and third under the names Limonite Silver Glance and Limonite Rhodium Gold.

Suzannah Tullett, Home Manager at Scarlet House, said: Laurice is a much-loved resident here at Scarlet House and always speaks so fondly of the dachshunds she raised and showed throughout her life.

We wanted to do something special to mark her 102nd birthday – and what better way than by surrounding her with her favourite four-legged friends? Forget 101 dalmatians... this celebration is all about 102 dachshunds!

Laurice is a huge dachshund lover and is always sharing fond memories and stories from her younger days with her own pets, so we knowshe’d be delighted to be surrounded by these furry friends.

We’d love to see as many dachshunds as possible join us on the day – and we’rereally hoping that we can reach our goal of 102! If you have a sausage dog and would like to take part, please do get in touch – we’d love to hear from you, andyou’ll make a 102-year-old lady the happiest birthday girl in the world!”
