School’s out (for summer!), there’s a Bank Holiday coming up and hopefully the sun will be shining.  With the long days to fill, let’s find out what’s on offer this August to keep everyone amused (click on the link below the event you are interested in for further details).

Calling all budding performers!!
The Gordon Craig Theatre are running to Themed Drama Camps during the school holidays.  Ideal for 6-12 year olds, it will explore drama, music, singing, dance and visual art activities to bring musical stories to life.  Children will devise and write a script during each of the workshops, which will be performed for parents, friends and families at the end of the week.  Whether you're looking for an introduction to theatre for your child or want to develop their natural talent, they are invited to come along and perform, laugh and make new friends.  Cost for the week long course of workshops is £99 per child.

Open Air Cinema at Knebworth House – Enjoy your favourite films under the stars!  The Luna Cinema are back at Knebworth with some fantastic films.  Bring a picnic and something to sit on.  Doors open at 7pm, film starts at 8.45pm.  For ticket info, click on the link below.

Pi Bistro present ‘The Soulman’ – Back by popular demand!  Come and join the Soulman for a three course meal and party the night away to all the Soul Classics at the Pi Bistro, Stevenage Arts & Leisure Centre.  Tickets are £35 per person and include a three course meal.

The Wine Society Indoor Picnic Lunch and Wine Tasting – If you love cheese, bread and wine then this is the event for you!  The Tasting Team will be showcasing 15 of their top summer picks for you to try, followed by an indoor picnic lunch.  After you’ve tasted them all, simply poor a glass of your favourite and sit down to enjoy the extensive range of breads and cheeses on offer.  This is the perfect way to spend a relaxed Saturday lunchtime, especially if you enjoy the perfect pairing of wine, cheese and bread!

Ghost Tour & Bat Walk (Knebworth House) – A unique opportunity to tour the House at night and hear the tales of the incidents that cannot be explained.  Visit areas where our resident presences have been detected.  Includes a light supper at Knebworth Barns.  Tour begins at 6.30pm.  Warm clothing and suitable footwear are recommended.  Pre-booking essential.

The Steam & County Crafts Fair – Set in the beautiful grounds of Knebworth House, the Family Country Steam & Crafts Fair now is now in its 6th year.  There really is something for everyone from Steam & other Vintage Vehicles, children’s small animal petting pens, Birds of Prey and Falconry display teams, Ferret racing, children’s entertainment as well as arts, crafts, gifts and food marquees, trade stands and rural demonstrators.

Lunch at The Wine Society – A cool glass of fizz accompanies the warm welcome you will receive in The Cellar Showroom, where you will learn a little about the 142-year history of The Society.  A walking tour of the cellars precedes a four-course lunch (freshly prepared with seasonal ingredients), accompanied by a tasting of five wines, including a fine and rare example from The Society’s archives, to gently take you through to the early afternoon.  After lunch, a member of The Society’s Tasting Team will give a short talk on the wines and, just for fun, take a vote to discover the favourite wine of the day.

Garden Theatre at Knebworth House: PETER PAN – Chapterhouse Theatre Company are delighted to present the unforgettable story of Peter Pan the boy who wouldn’t grow up.  Join Wendy, Michael and John Darling on their adventures with Peter, far away on the magical island of Neverland. There they encounter the enchanting mermaids, magical fairies and the cruellest pirate of them all, Captain Hook.  Head to Knebworth House for what promises to be the most magical evening of the summer, performed on the Sunken Lawn in front of Knebworth House.  Bring a picnic and rug/low backed seating.

Classic Motor Show – Knebworth House plays host to a huge number of wonderful classic cars.  This enthusiast's paradise features an auto-jumble, trade stands, live commentary and arena displays of clubs, kit and custom cars.  There will be a number of static displays as well as a show arena hosting stunning parades.  Vehicles include saloons, sports, American, commercial and military plus classic motorcycles.  This is a fantastic day out for all the family with access to the Gardens, Dinosaur Trail, Park and Adventure Playground included in the Motor Show ticket.

For anyone looking for a night (or afternoon) at the theatre, there’s also plenty on this month at the Gordon Craig Theatre:

Singin’ in the Rain - Raining live on stage this critically acclaimed musical will have you singing and dancing whatever the weather!  In silent movies, Don Lockwood and Lina Lamont are a hot item, but behind the scenes things aren’t always as they appear on the big screen!  Each unforgettable scene, song, and dance is accounted for, including the show-stopping title number plus ‘Good Morning’, ‘Make Em Laugh’, ‘Moses Supposes’, and ‘You Were Meant For Me’ - complete with an onstage rainstorm!  This West End winner is perfect entertainment for any fan of the golden age of movie musicals.

Josh Widdicombe: What Do I Do Now? – Josh Widdicombe (that guy from the TV comedy shows with the curly hair), is back on the road with a brand new tour.  Since he was last on tour, Josh’s Channel 4 show ‘The Last Leg’ has gone from strength to strength and was nominated for a British Comedy Award and a Broadcast Award, before finally winning one at the Royal Television Society Awards.  He now hosts the BBC5 Live sport show ‘Fighting Talk’ and The Josh Widdicombe Show on Xfm.  He has also written and starred in his own sitcom Josh which has its second series coming to BBC3 this year.
