Detectives are appealing for information after a serious assault in Stafford.

The incident happened at around 9.30pm on Tuesday 9 April when two unknown men went to an address in Young Avenue. They knocked on the door and when the occupant answered they barged into the house and assaulted him. Fortunately, he was able to raise the alarm with his neighbours who called the emergency services and the men fled.

It is believed they left via the back of the property and came out on Stone Road by the Co-op. The victim, a 27-year-old man, suffered head and back injuries and was taken to Stafford Hospital for treatment. He has since been released. One of the offenders is described as black, aged in his 40s, 5ft 9ins to 5ft 10ins tall of average build. He had black and grey stubble and wore a dark hat and clothing. He was holding what is described as a newspaper.

There is no description for the second man. Anyone with information, or who saw anyone matching this description in the area, is asked to contact DC Paul Whitehouse at Staffordshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 756 of April 9. Alternatively, they can contact independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
