Been made redundant? There are alternatives to consider

Slough is a vibrant town in a dynamic area for business, but even here the effects of the recession are being felt, and most of us know someone who has been laid off, had their hours cut or is feeling vulnerable about their income right now.

If you have just been told you are being made redundant, or have just been laid off, it can feel like the end of the world. The household bills keep coming in, but the pay packet has stopped. And the folk down the Job Centre may be well meaning, but they are not about to pay you benefits at a level anywhere near what you are used to earning.

So, what next? There are plenty of places to submit your CV online, there may be a few job ads to reply to. Don't expect lots of interviews, or even any actual responses; many employers are simply getting too many applicants to find the time to answer them all.

And, as we are in a recession, whether the politicians want to accept it or not, there are likely to be plenty of other people out there looking for a job, including younger, cheaper folk who are just as desperate and keen to please a potential employer.

Maybe it's time to go it alone, to start out and try your own business. Maybe you are investigating franchises or home based business opportunities. Perhaps you can see it will take you a long while to get a new job at anywhere the level of your old one, and so maybe you are looking at a part time business opportunity to help you through.

There are several flexible, part time business opportunities out there, ideal for someone looking to an extra way to earn some additional income. Some of these business opportunities even offer a good way to build up an ongoing, residual income.

If you're checking these opportunities out, do your homework. Check out whether the company's services are reliable, and how widely they are used – what's the size of the potential market? If the company is listed on the UK Stock Market, you can see how they are performing; are they debt-free, are they growing consistently? What do the various consumer guides, such as Which? magazine, say about them?

If you're considering the alternatives out there for a flexible business opportunity, you may want to consider the business that I have been involved with for some time, which is backed by a reputable British PLC. I am always looking for motivated individuals to join my team, so get in touch. It may be the answer you were looking for.
