A funeral home in Sheffield is celebrating the second anniversary of its free bereavement café.
Co-op John Fairest Funeralcare launched the monthly café in August 2024 to support anyone in the community struggling with the loss of a loved one.
The sessions, run by the team at Co-op John Fairest Funeralcare and local celebrant Sharon Fox, have since taken place on the first Monday of every month.
The sessions are designed to help those who may be feeling isolated and to give local people a chance to connect with others in a relaxed setting. During meetings, attendees are invited to talk about anything they’d like, not just death and bereavement, while enjoying a host of complimentary refreshments.
The next meeting will be on Monday 7th September from 10am-12pm at St Chad’s Church House, in Woodseats.
Kerry Grandilli, Funeral Arranger at Co-op John Fairest Funeralcare, said: “Everyone experiences grief differently, but it can help to know that you’re not alone. Since launching, we have worked to create a warm and welcoming space where people can come together, share experiences and feel supported.
“This drop-in group is informal and open to anyone who feels they might benefit, whether that’s through conversation or simply spending some quiet time with others. There’s no pressure to speak or share; sometimes simply being in a room with others who understand can make all the difference.
“We’d like to invite anyone who is struggling with the death of a loved one to join us – we’re here to help.”
