The Olympic Torch Relay is very important part of the build-up to London 2012, it unites people across the UK to celebrate the spirit of the games!

On Saturday 23rd June, locally nominated torchbearers will carry the torch through the streets of Crawshawbooth, Reedsholme and Rawtenstall. There are lots of ways you can get involved in this exciting event!

Gather everyone you know and line the streets of Rossendale to show your support! You could even dress up, the theme of the event is gold so make it your moment to shine and turn Rossendale gold! If you're part of a sports team or activity club and you wear a kit or uniform, why not wear it to line the streets and show off your club colours.

Whether you're part of a community group, activity club and school or on your own, you can help to decorate the route. You could make an Olympic banner supporting your local torch bearers, a flag to wave or even some bunting.

Attend one of the many events running up to and on the day of the torch relay or even hold your very own! Get a few neighbours together for a street party! If you let the council know they can offer advice and help promote it in your local area! They can even offer you funding to help with the costs!

Artist Sharan Bispham will be working with Cherry Crescent Luncheon Club to decorate the Bocholt Tree in Rawtenstall in the Torch Relay colours of white and gold. You can help to decorate the tree by donating materials for the artist to use. Your unwanted items will then help to create a visual attraction on the route and might even be seen by the rest of the world! If you have any paper, card, fabric, tinfoil, Christmas decorations, fake flowers or ornaments that are white, gold or sparkly, please take them to our donation centres at:
