A staple in the Whitworth events calendar, the Annual New Year’s Day Duck Race was again a wonderful success. It took place on 1 January at Cowm Reservoir, Whitworth just after 1pm on New Year’s Day. In total, over 800 ducks were sponsored and around 400 people turned out on the day. The sponsor of the winning duck won £75, with second and third prizes issued of £50 amd £25 respectively.
The ducks were launched by the Mayor of Whitworth, Councillor David Chorlton, with support from the Deputy Mayor, David Bradbury.
The Duck Race is organised jointly between Whitworth Town Council’s Tourism and Leisure Committee and CLAW (the Community Leisure Association of Whitworth).
For those unfamiliar with the concept, you ‘sponsor’ a numbered yellow rubber duck for £1.00, which is then entered into the Duck Race.
