At the Annual Meeting of the Whitworth Parish on 12 May, the recipients of the Jeff Ogden Award for Services to the Community and the Jack Wilkinson Young Achiever’s Award were announced.  The awards are presented by Whitworth Town Council to an individual or group of people who make a significant and positive difference to Whitworth life.

The Jeff Ogden Award for Services to the Community was presented to the Rossendale First Responders (Whitworth Team), a team of dedicated volunteers who attend medical emergencies in the town upon the request of the emergency services.  The citation for the award was made by Mrs Tina Mycock, and the award was presented by Mrs Kay Ogden, wife of Mr Jeff Ogden.

The Jack Wilkinson Young Achiever’s Award was presented to the young swimming teachers and assistants at the Whitworth Swimming Club, who have taught hundreds of Whitworth children and young people to swim and life-saving techniques.  The citation for and presentation of the award was made by the Mayor of Whitworth, Councillor David Chorlton.

The Town Council also made a presentation to Mr Jimmy Grogan, who stepped down as a Town Councillor in May after 30 years’ service.  The citation was read by Councillor Alan Neal, and Mr Grogan was presented with a certificate in recognition of his outstanding service.
