Details of the 2015 Whitworth Sports Festival, which will run between Saturday 6 and Sunday 14 June 2015, have been announced.

The Festival, now in its seventh year, is organised by the Whitworth Sports Council.  Featuring events suitable for all ages and encompassing many of the sports available in Whitworth, the Festival will be taking place at venues throughout the town over the course of the nine days.  There will be lots of old favourites and a number of new events - some will be spectator-only, however many will give members of the public an opportunity to get stuck in as participants.

The Festival kicks off on Saturday 6 June, with an opening ceremony at Whitworth Community High School’s grounds on Hall Street, Whitworth attended by the Mayor of Whitworth.  There will also be a closing ceremony on Sunday 14 June at The Riverside (Civic Hall).

Entry forms must be completed for some events and are available at The Riverside (Civic Hall), Whitworth Leisure Centre on John Street, Whitworth High School sports hall, Whitworth Library on Lloyd Street, the Young People’s Centre at 515 Market Street, and all Whitworth schools.

In addition to the individual events, a number of local sporting organisations are giving the public special offers during or around the time of the Festival:

  • Samba Dance on Station Road, Facit, is offering free taster sessions for various classes throughout June.
  • Throughout June the High School Sports Hall Gym is offering the public the chance to become a member without the usual signing-on fee.
  • Whitworth Leisure Centre is offering free swim tokens to all those who participate in Festival events, which can be used at the Leisure Centre at any appropriate time up to 14 July (under 8s must be accompanied).
  • Whitworth Water-Ski Centre at Cowm Reservoir is offering anyone the chance to try out their activities at member rates during the Festival.
  •  Climb Rochdale, for the third year, is kindly offering prizes for many events, and a reduced entry rate of £3.50 if you show them a copy of the June 2015 edition of the Whitworth Valley News magazine.
