Christmas at the Boo – 10-18 Decembec
Rehearsals are underway for this year’s Christmas event at The Boo – a brand new professional theatre show created especially for the people of Rossendale and Pennine Lancashire.
Last year Red Riding Hood was a sell-out, so this year there are more weekend performances – and the whole experience is enhanced by animations and 3D artworks created by children at three local primary schools; working with professional artists.
This beautiful new adaptation of The Nightingale by Hans Christian Andersen features an array lovingly created masks, puppetry, animation and all manner of gizmos, all presented on a magical set at the Boo in Waterfoot. This is the story of a pampered King who decides to better nature by getting his minions to invent a mechanical singing bird.
Alison Duddle and Bob Frith from Horse + Bamboo are currently creating the visual magic at the heart of the production: a beautifully brattish Emperor, a ‘flying’ puppet, an amazingly lifelike carved wooden nightingale and some wonderful woodland creatures. Alison says “We want this to be a show that really expands the imagination and delights the eyes and the senses of all ages.”
Many will know the Boo’s regular family events have become a ‘can’t miss’ treat in Rossendale on Sunday afternoons. This popular formula includes a high quality theatre show, with free creative activities before and after – and there’s always something you can make and take home!
