The Bacup and Stacksteads Carnival Organisation have now begun fundraising to resurrect this much loved family event. A date and venue have now been set for next year, giving them plenty of time to raise the £15,000 needed to make it once again an unforgettable day.
Fundraising events have already taken place, including a BASCO member sitting in a bath of beans in the foyer of the Co-op on Irwell Street, a fundraising afternoon at the New Inn and a fancy dress pub crawl. The good work seems set to continue, the Crown Inn is hosting its own fundraiser on October 16th. The group are also going green by looking for old mobile phones and chargers to recycle for extra funds.
BASCO members and no doubt many of those who live in Rossendale will agree, the Bacup and Stacksteads Carnival was, and will be again, an integral part of the community.
Plans for the carnival have already been set, with the fair being in Stubbylee Park on June 27th 2010. The event organisers are really going out of their way to ensure that the Bacup and Stacksteads Carnival will be returned to its former glory, and that it will be a great day out for all.
As the event is proud to say that it is family friendly, alcohol will not be available but there will be plenty to keep people of all ages entertained. Just some of the attractions include a parade with floats and a display of old carnival photographs, which date back to the 1970’s.
BASCO are also seeking marshals for both the parade and the park so if you would like to assist, make a donation or find out more information please email info@basco.org.uk
