A bid for a Community Radio Licence has been submitted to Ofcom by the newly formed Rossendale FM team.

A not-for-profit organisation has been constituted comprising Chairman: Peter Sweetmore, Secretary: David Masters, Treasurer: Shaun smith and Board members: Tony Nixon and Catherine Dobson.

The team, all former volunteers and workers for Rossendale Radio are determined to re-create a Community Radio Station, following the demise of Rossendale Radio after it was taken over by Agapao International.

Peter Sweetmore stated: The unnecessary loss of Rossendale Radio was a huge blow not only to all those who enjoyed being a part of a great team, producing very popular radio output, but to the Rossendale Community as a whole. This is why we have created this new organisation and thanks to the generous citizens of Rossendale we have collected the £600 needed to submit the Ofcom licence bid.

We now have to wait around 12 months to see if the bid is successful, but we are heartened by the fact that we are the only bidders for a Community Station in the Rossendale area.

In the interim, we are going to maintain prominence across the Rossendale Valley, along with fund-raising and gathering support to help ensure the new stations sustainability.
