The Mayor of Whitworth’s Moonlight Walk, held in early April, has raised £2,000 (two thousand pounds) which will be used to benefit worthwhile Whitworth causes.

Mayor and Mayoress Councillor David and Mrs Gillian Chorlton, plus around 40 sponsored walkers, undertook a 9-mile trek from Whitworth to Bacup and back.

The walkers were supported along the way by Lizzie Lumb’s Cafe in Shawforth and the Russian Tea Room in Bacup, both of which stayed open after hours to accommodate the walkers and offer rest, refreshment and a toilet break.

Councillor Chorlton said: “The weather conditions were perfect for walking, and everyone involved remained in high spirits throughout.  Gill and I would like to offer our sincere thanks to all the walkers and those who sponsored them, to Lizzie Lumb’s Cafe and the Russian Tea Room for their fantastic support, to Lords for providing the post-walk sandwiches, to Kieran Durkin for his First Aid support, to the Whitworth Warriors for marshalling the event, and to all those behind the scenes who helped to administer the event.  We were stunned to learn that the walk has raised £2,000, all of which will go to worthwhile Whitworth causes.”
