Mamma Mia! On Saturday 18 October, the glamour-tastic Mayor and Mayoress of Whitworth, Councillor Jim Mellor and his wife, Susan, will host an evening of music and fun, as the glorious tunes of Swedish Super Troopers Abba takes revellers through the night.  The event takes place at the Riverside in Whitworth, with all proceeds going towards the Mayor’s Charity Fund, to be issued to local causes at the end of Councillor Mellor’s year in office.

Entitled ‘One Night of ABBA!’, the evening will see the Riverside decked out in early 1970s glitz and guests are encouraged to attend in ABBA-inspired fancy dress.  Entertainment will be provided by top ABBA tribute ABBA Glamma, and the DJ is under strict instructions to play all the disco-est tunes from the era and nothing else.  There will be a buffet evening meal, and an opportunity to bag some raffle prizes and bump up the charity coffers on the night.

Councillor Mellor says: “Sue and I are very excited about this event – everyone’s feet seem to start tapping when ABBA comes on so we’re hoping for a really good, fun evening, raising lots of money for Whitworth causes at the same time.  This is an open invitation to anyone who fancies a great night out to join us on 18 October for a celebration of the ABBA era.”

Tickets cost £15 and should be booked in advance; they are available now from Karen Douglas, Town Clerk on 01706 852018 / email info@whitworth.gov.uk.  Doors open at 7pm on the night and last orders are at 12.30am.
