On Thursday 11 August, the Mayor and Mayoress of Whitworth, Councillor Dave Bradbury and Ms Angela Gerrard, held a fundraising evening at the Ashoka Indian Restaurant on Market Street in Whitworth.

The evening was a sell-out and over £500 was raised on the night, which will go towards the Mayor’s Charity Fund.

One of the highlights of the evening was the cutting off of the Mayor’s ponytail – the Mayoress did the honours.  Councillor Bradbury says: “My ponytail has been my pride and joy for eight years.  I decided that I would allow it to be removed to raise funds during my year in office, and Angela was more than willing to do the job!  Angela and I were absolutely delighted with the support on the night, and with the amount of money raised.  I’d like to offer special thanks to Raj and the staff of the Ashoka for providing such a wonderful evening.”

The Mayor’s next two fundraising events will be a Race Night, to be held at the Riverside in Whitworth on Friday 23 September, and the Mayor’s Charity Ball on Saturday 8 October, also at the Riverside.  Tickets are now available for both events by contacting Karen Douglas, Town Clerk on 01706 852018 / email info@whitworth.gov.uk.
