January 2016: Funding for businesses & homes in Rossendale affected by Boxing Day floods

A summary of the funding available for homes and businesses in the valley – as found on the Rossendale Council website.

Rossendale Council has received confirmation of funding from central government. 

  • £500 Flood Grants – These payments should be made to any affected household in line with the policy which can be found here. The policy is intentionally broad, and is based on that adopted in Cumbria. 
  • Local Discretionary Relief Fund – This is the fund being administered by the Community Foundation for Lancashire and is intended to support people with specific additional needs e.g. as a result of not being insured. Please click here for more information
  • Council Tax and Business Rates Relief – We are pleased to announce that Rossendale Council are introducing a Council Tax and  NNDR Relief Scheme for those properties affected by the floods from Strom Eva. The Please click on the links for the relevant polices to see if you're eligible and how to apply. 
  • Business Flood Grants – Applications for these are being dealt with via the Boost website and Gateway.
  • Flood protection Grants – These are a longer term issue but are payments of up to £5,000 to allow people to put in place resilient repairs, replace doors and windows with water resistant alternatives, or move electricity sockets up to a safer level etc. See section below. 
  • Flood Relief Fund from Sport England - This is for sports facilities that have ben damaged as a result of the recent floods. More information can he found here.
  • Football Foundation Emergency Football Relief Fund - This is for grassroots football clubs that have seen their facilities damaged by flooding. You can find more information on this fund here.
  • United Utilities Bill Assistance information -  http://www.unitedutilities.com/ - search under Emergencies and Flooding 
  • Visit Lancashire are co-ordinating a Tourism Business Flood Impact Survey to look at the impact on tourism businesses, which will then feed into agencies working towards putting emergency measures and funding packages in place. To complete the survey please click here.
  • Flood Resilience Grant - Government support is available to local authorities to provide grants of up to £5,000 to homeowners and businesses that have been flooded as a result of Storm Desmond and Storm Eva to help fund additional flood resilience or resistance measures for their properties.
