Flying the flag for St George

ENGLAND’s patron saint will be celebrated in at a St George’s Day Dance at Bacup Leisure Hall next Friday April 23.

Members of Bacup Community Association, the group fighting to keep the leisure hall in Burnley Road open, have organised a dance with raffle, a DJ, music from local band Pie, dancing from Sparkles Dance Studio, Haslingden, and supper.

Chairman of Bacup Community Association Dave East said: "This is one of a number of events that we will be holding at the leisure hall to raise money for the fighting fund to keep the hall open as a community resource.

"We are hoping a large number of people will come along and enjoy a good night out with great entertainment and food and help celebrate our patron saint.

"People are welcome to attend in fancy dress on a St George theme. Tickets are £10, which includes supper, and doors open at 7pm."

In May two events are planned. On Wednesday May 12 there will be a companion dog show in the evening and on Sunday May 30 a car and motorbike show will be held.

Rossendale Council agreed to fund the centre until July, but what will happen to the premises after that date is uncertain.
