The East Lancashire Railway is hosting its annual Residents Weekend on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th March 2012 offering much reduced travel fares for locals living in the boroughs of Bury, Rochdale and Rossendale.

The popular Residents Weekend allows any resident of the three boroughs to travel at the resident fare by providing a proof of address such as a utility or council tax bill or driving licence. A full line return ticket costs £4.60 per adult (standard fare is £13.00) and £3.00 child/senior/registered disabled (standard fare is £11.00 concession and £8.40 child), saving up to £8.40 per person!

It is a fantastic opportunity to re-discover what’s on your doorstep whilst travelling on the railway’s heritage steam and diesel fleet. The local areas offer so much to see and do; from farmers markets at Ramsbottom, Fitzpatrick’s in Rawtenstall, one of Britain’s last remaining temperance bars, Heywood’s beautiful Victorian Queen’s Park or the Rail Ale Trail, a steam-powered pub crawl taking in the whole 12-mile route. There is something for everyone!

The Residents Weekend is also an opportunity to purchase a Resident Permit which will enable visitors to enjoy the reduced travel rates throughout the year.*
Already used by thousands of local residents, the permit costs £7.50 per adult per annum, or £10.00 for three years. Children do not require a permit as they can travel at the special, fare with a adult permit holder.

*Conditions apply, please check the website for details www.eastlancsrailway.org.uk/visit-us/residents-permit/.
