25th August 2011

On Friday 23 September, the Mayor and Mayoress of Whitworth, Councillor Dave Bradbury and Ms Angela Gerrard, will be hosting a Race Night at the Riverside (Civic Hall) on Market Street in Whitworth.  Tickets are available now, and demand is expected to be high.  Doors open at 7.30pm and the first race will take place at 8pm.  All proceeds from the evening will go towards the Mayor’s Charity Fund.

This will be a fun event for all the family.  The ‘races’ take place on a large grid marked out on the Riverside hall floor.  Giant dice are rolled to determine which of the ‘jockeys’ (participants on hobby horses) move forward or back, and the winner is the jockey that makes it to the finishing line first.

6 of the 7 races can be sponsored in advance of the evening, as can the jockeys, and sponsorship of the seventh and final race will be auctioned off on the night.  You can also bet on the ‘races’ on the night.  There’ll be a charity raffle, and hot food will be supplied in the form of Lords the Caterers’ famous potato pie suppers.

Tickets cost £1.50 entrance only or £3.50 including potato pie supper, and are available now from Councillor Bradbury (07876 212808 / email davedave64@hotmail.co.uk) or Karen Douglas, Town Clerk (01706 852018 / email info@whitworth.gov.uk).
