Step back in time – Isleworth care home invites community to VE Day party

A care home in Isleworth is inviting the local community to mark the end of the Second World War in Europe.

On Friday 8th May from 2pm-4pm, Care UK’s Charlotte House, on Snowy Fielder Waye, iopening its doors to honour the 81st anniversary of VE Day with its very own party. 

 

VE Day marks the moment Prime Minister Winston Churchill made an announcement on the radio that the war in Europe had come to an end. This emotional news sparked celebrations across the country, with many taking to the streets for spontaneous parties.  

   

Visitors to Charlotte House will be able to dance the afternoon away with live music from Jason Redrup and enjoy food and refreshments specially prepared by the home’s Head Chef.  

 

Visitors and residents will also be able to see three military vehicles up close when they arrive on the day  such as an Austin Champ (1954), a Daimler Ferret Mk1 Scout Car (1953), and a Willys Jeep MB (1943) – encouraging reminiscence of the era. 

    

Resident Ann Lane said: “I remember being in my gran’s house, as we all lived on the same road, and my aunt came in on her lunch break to tell us the war was over. I remember the street parties and everyone coming together.”

Charlotte House is a purpose-built care home which has been designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence.
