Age UK Richmond has organized the Rainbow Retirement Day in partnership with the Landmark Arts Centre, as they know that queer older people can be more vulnerable in later life.

Age UK Richmond is a local, independent charity supporting older people. They provide information and advice, help with money and benefits, practical support at home and much more. Age UK Richmond teaches free IT lessons, leads a dementia awareness programme and runs a huge range of social activities and exercise classes to keep local older people fit, busy, connected and happy. In 2023 the charity set up a Rainbow Café to create a safe, inclusive space for LGBTQ+ elders to socialise and support one another.

Age UK Richmond has organized the Rainbow Retirement Day in partnership with the Landmark Arts Centre, as they know that queer older people can be more vulnerable in later life. They hear of LGBTQ+ elders without the legal right to make decisions for beloved life partners in their final days. And heartbreakingly, this generation can be forced back into the closet in care homes for fear of neglect or even abuse. The Rainbow Retirement Day will provide free legal guidance and get attendees thinking about choosing a gay friendly care provider. Our hope is that older LGBTQ+ people can live happy, authentic lives, right until the very end of the rainbow.
