A care home is opening its doors to the community to mark 80 years since the end of World War II.

VE Day was celebrated on 8th May 1945, after Prime Minister Winston Churchill made an announcement on the radio that the war in Europe had come to an end. This emotional news sparked celebrations across the country, with many taking to the streets for spontaneous parties.

At Mountbatten Grange, from 11.30am, guests will be transported back in time with team members dressing in 1940s attire, as well as a live performance from the D-Day Dollies. The day's celebration will also include a talk led by the local historian, Dr B. Mitchell, who will be discussing the significance of VE Day. The day will end with the cadets lighting a lamp.
