Jazz and Folk in the Orchard

Top musicians from the world of Jazz and Folk music are gathering to help raise funds for Cuerden Valley Park, including the BBC Philharmonic’s Julian Gregory and nationally acclaimed folk singer Anthony John Clarke.  The two days of music have been compiled to appeal to everyone, although Jazz and Folk fans will not be disappointed with the mix of acts on offer.
On Saturday 7 July the Park’s orchard will be set for a laid back programme of Jazz and blues, opening with Lancashire Youth Swing Band.  Rhythm and blues band The Groove Diggers will then take the stage to be followed by Gypsy Jazz from the Julian Gregory quartet.

Saxophonist and flautist Geni Lamb will treat everyone to music in her laid-back Latin style and John Jenkinson will sing old favourite Sinatra hits to round the evening off in good fashion.

The jazz programme has been brought together by Debbie Wilson, who may also be persuaded to delight everyone with a few numbers in her own classy style.

On the Sunday (8 July) the Orchard will again be filled with music when it is the turn of a wide variety of folk musicians.  The day will start with talented local young musicians Katy Cottrell and Sam and Millie followed by up-and-coming folk fusion band Enigma Falls (from Bolton).

And the main attractions for the evening will be nationally acclaimed singer-songwriter Anthony John Clarke and punk–jazz band Merry Hell.

All this in the orchard along with a bar and food – for a truly wonderful musical weekend to remember.  There will be some seating but music lovers are advised to bring deck chairs or picnic rugs.  Cuerden Valley Park staff hope that umbrellas will not be required - but if they are, they’re sure not to dampen the spirit of the occasion.

The Music in the orchard events will open at 2.30pm and run well into the evening (11pm on Saturday and10pm on Sunday).  Jazz tickets are just £10 and Folk tickets  £7 (Discounted advance tickets are available from the Barn Visitor Centre, Berkeley Drive, off Shady Lane, Bamber Bridge, PR5 6BY.  Tel: 01772 324436)

All proceeds will go to maintain Cuerden Valley Park and help to keep it open
